Ned Smith

Mr. Smith joined the Real Estate Solutions group at Midland as a Senior Asset Manager in 2007 and was subsequently promoted to Vice President - Special Servicing Manager. His primary management responsibilities include team mentoring and oversight, the identification and analysis of disposition strategies, the review and approval of Asset Status and Asset Resolution cases, compliance with REMIC and PSA requirements, portfolio based initiatives, and investor relations. In addition, he is a member of both the Midland Credit and Advance Committees. Mr. Smith oversaw all aspects of the General Growth Properties and DBSI bankruptcy actions.
 
Prior to joining Midland, Mr. Smith was Vice President of Asset Management at Principal Commercial Acceptance where he was responsible for the management of sub-performing value-add bridge loans, land loans, mezzanine debt and preferred equity investments, as well as investor reporting. Mr. Smith has extensive asset management experience including developing and implementing workout and foreclosure plans, assisting borrowers with financial restructuring or property repositioning, and coordinating legal activities. Additionally, Mr. Smith is skilled in the management, value enhancement, redevelopment, repositioning and disposition of to be developed land, commercial real estate loans and REO properties.
 
Prior to 2002, Mr. Smith worked in PCA's production management group where he specialized in financing to be developed land, value-add bridge loans, mezzanine loans and preferred equity investments. Prior to joining PCA, Mr. Smith was an attorney in the private practice of law focusing primarily on insurance defense and business litigation, but also touching upon real estate law, administrative law, appellate practice, contracts, and property taxation. Mr. Smith received his law degree from St. Mary’s University Law School in San Antonio in 1994, and is licensed to practice in Kansas and Missouri. Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Kansas in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
